Adult Psychiatry
& Psychotherapy

Get accessible and personalized mental healthcare at my office in Seattle or virtually from the comfort of your home.

Hello, I’m Dr. Bowen!

Welcome to my practice! I’m a board-certified psychiatrist licensed to practice in the state of Washington. I offer both psychotherapy and psychiatric medication management. Navigating the mental health care system can be challenging, and I hope that offering combined psychotherapy and (optional) medication management simplifies your care.

My psychiatry practice, located in south Seattle close to the Old Rainier Brewery, specializes in the psychiatric treatment of adults with a broad range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, work stress, relationship issues, loss, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. I strive to provide individualized, comprehensive, and evidence-based care. I believe that the best mental health care requires deep trust, collaboration, and an environment that is safe, comfortable, and professional.

Therapy: My practice draws upon a variety of evidence-based psychotherapies. Your therapy journey might involve building/strengthening coping skills, exploring your personality and identity in a nonjudgmental environment, or uncovering aspects of yourself you’ve not yet discovered.

Medications: Sometimes they are helpful, and sometimes they are not. The decision of whether to try (or not try) medications should be one we make collaboratively and through mutual understanding.

Regardless of the treatment approaches we take, a genuine human connection and the strength of our relationship will be the foundation for our treatment.

Services

General Information:
I see adults 18+ years old for psychotherapy with or without medication management. After an initial phone call to see if we are a good fit, we will meet for an initial consultation (60-90 min) and then typically 1x/week (50 min) thereafter.

Brief Phone Consultation (10-15 minutes)
After you complete the screening form linked to the “Request an Appointment” button on this website, I will contact you to schedule a free, brief phone consultation to discuss your current needs. If it seems we are a good fit, we will schedule an Initial Psychiatric Consultation.

Initial Psychiatric Consultation (60-90 min)

This is our first appointment together. It can be in-person at my office or virtual via telehealth (video), depending on your preference . We will discuss your mental health concerns, review your mental health and medical history, and discuss your initial diagnosis and treatment options.

Follow-Up Therapy Visit, with or without Medications (50 min)

Our first three visits (initial consultation + two follow-up appointments) are considered a consultative period to see if we are a good fit. If my expertise is not a good match for your needs, I can assist you with a referral to another provider. If we are a good fit, after the initial consultation, we will meet weekly for therapy and utilize/adjust medications if/as needed.

What services do you not provide?

Due to the limitations of my practice, I am unable to provide the following services: controlled substances (such as stimulants or benzodiazepines), child/adolescent services, couples/family/group therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), intensive outpatient chemical dependency treatment (e.g. rehabilitation programs), wrap-around/case management services, disability evaluations, forensic evaluations, Labor & Industries assessments (L&I), court-ordered treatment; or assessments for work, child custody, emotional support animals or weapon ownership.

Payment & Insurance

I am considered an “out-of-network” provider for all insurance plans, and I bill patients directly. This means payment will be due in full immediately following each session via cash, check, or credit card.

You may have “out-of-network” insurance benefits. Upon request, I will provide you with a bill (called a “Superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance company to seek possible reimbursement.

Prior to our first visit, I encourage all patients to contact their insurance company to determine the exact amount you will pay for “out-of-network” services.  You can find your insurance company's phone number on the back of your insurance card. Please see my FAQ ("What should I ask my insurance company?") for additional guidance. Please note that that Medicare does not provide any out-of-network reimbursement.

Please contact me for more information regarding my current fees.

Location

My office is located in Sodo, on the 3rd floor of the Urban WorkLofts Building (Suite 328). The building is locked, so for your first visit please call me at (206) 429-5327‬ and I will come down to show you where the callboxes are and guide you into the building. For subsequent visits, please dial my office number (“328”) on the callbox and I will buzz you into the building.

You can park in any spot labeled “guest” (on the ground level or underground level). There is also parking in the Old Rainier Brewery parking lot. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow for parking.
